At any time of the year, the Esplanade Walk offers a wonderful experience.
There's plenty of parking and the walk is a straight stretch of level ground suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Start by walking down past the Caravan Park to the end of the Esplanade that joins the more challenging Derwent Cliffs Walk.
You get fantastic views of the Derwent River from several jetties where locals try their luck during the fishing season. You may also see rowers and Stand Up Paddle Boarders. All year round there are ducks and other birdlife on the riverbank and depending on the season the flora is spectacular.
Visit during the Autumn months to witness the magnificent changing colours of the deciduous trees that line the river and the parkland. There are barbecue facilities, and children's' playground to keep everyone entertained. Walkers, bicycle riders and dog-walkers are welcome.
The Esplanade is the venue for the very popular Autumn Festival and has been revitalised by improving access to the river and various landscaping work.
