Mental Health Week 2019

Mental Health Week October 2019

Mental Health Week in Tasmania 2019

Mental Health Week in Tasmania is from 6th-12th October and incorporates 10th October which is World Mental Health Day.

The purpose of this awareness week is to engage communities in activities that promote mental health and wellbeing and raise awareness and understanding about mental illness, and how it impacts on the lives of people in our community.

Mental Health is about wellness rather than illness. It is about being able to function to your full potential, cope with day-to-day life stresses, be involved in your community, and live your life in a free and satisfying way. A person who has good mental health has good emotional and social wellbeing and the capacity to cope with change and challenges.

We all have a role to play in regard to our own mental wellbeing and seeking help when we need it. During this special week, why not check what’s happening in your community, and perhaps help someone outside your usual circle of acquaintances. Have conversations when you think someone appears to be struggling. Ask them if they need a good listener, and encourage them to get the help they need.

Keep an ear open for our taped radio sessions with Lifeline on TYGA-fm radio. The sessions cover the topic of mental ill health, the devastating impact on people’s lives, and how to get help when you need it.
