Getting where you need to go

Getting where you need to go

Over the past 6 months, Tasmania Council of Social Services (TasCOSS) has been gathering thoughts and ideas from local residents about transport issues. The purpose is to come up with a list of the hot-button topics that our community believe are worth seeking solutions for.  A working committee has put together a list of 15 ideas that will be presented to the Tasmanian Premier as part of the plan to improve transport in the Derwent Valley.

  1. Establish more direct buses between New Norfolk and Bridgewater.
  2. Let people pay their vehicle registration in instalments.
  3. Bring the price of bus fares down.
  4. All students to have their drivers license by the end of Year 12.
  5. Commence shuttle buses between Maydena and New Norfolk.
  6. More driver mentors and community transport drivers.
  7. Provide help for people using buses.
  8. Encourage carpooling.
  9. Building and improving footpaths, cycleways and bus shelters.
  10. Ask “how are you getting here and back home?”
  11. Start up a New Norfolk Shopper Shuttle Bus.
  12. Create feeder services to main bus routes.
  13. Create a Children’s Bus to help families get to and from learning institutions.
  14. Create shuttle buses to employers in the Valley.
  15. Establish after-hours transport from Hobart to New Norfolk.
